Camp JCC Creates Amazing Opportunities

Posted by: Camp JCC on Tuesday, March 9, 2021

How does Camp JCC make an impact on kids in our community? Whether the kids are here for one week, or the entire summer, they create memories that last a lifetime!

It is the purpose of Camp JCC to provide a warm and caring atmosphere throughout the summer. We promote a child-centered environment where each camper is viewed as unique, important, and special.

Camp relieves the pressures that may exist in an academic setting and allows campers to flourish through maximizing their strengths and minimizing their weaknesses. We exist to provide an opportunity for fun and a place to repeat experiences, try new activities, develop new skills, and bond with old friends while creating new relationships in a safe and healthy atmosphere.

Campers will leave their time at Camp JCC with:

  • Knowledge of Judaic values and concepts
  • A sense of community
  • A positive identity of self and society
  • Confidence in new skills in various activity areas
  • Further development of physical skills including swim ability
  • A sense that the value of an activity is not on winning, but rather on cooperation, sportsmanship, and growing as an individual

Over 1,000 campers have attended camp over the past five years

Donations to the JCC Impact Campaign fund scholarships for campers.

Meet our Camp JCC Assistant Director, Tiffany Oliver:

How long have you been involved with Camp?
4 years, this will be my 5th summer working Camp JCC!

What is your favorite thing about working at camp?
I love to see the campers and watch their growth between summers. I also love that it is a complete change from a school setting. The kids get to explore, create, and form new friendships!

How does working at camp impact you personally?
It keeps my passion for working with children throughout the year. I teach at Akiva during a school year, and this keeps my spark for teaching going! I am able to bring and adapt new ideas in my classroom.

How do you think camp impacts the campers?
I feel camp allows the campers to build wonderful friendships with others from outside their community. It gives them the opportunity to be engaged throughout the summer in new activities and experiences.

Did you go to summer camp as a kid?
No, and I wish I had!

What was your favorite memory?
My favorite memory from Camp JCC are the overnights. We watch movies and relax at the end of camp with snacks and a sleepover.

What does a good day at camp look like?
The campers and counselors enjoying the activities we offer. They are so engaged that they are surprised when it is the end of the day and can't wait for the next day's adventure.

What are you most proud of (related to camp)?
I am proud of being able to offer new experiences to campers. They get to attend field trips to new places and experience our Logan campus.

What keeps you coming back each year?
The campers! Their smiles are worth it all.

When you aren't teaching or at summer camp what do you like to do?
Read, read, and read! I also spend a lot of time with my dog, Bailey, and family.

What's your favorite camp snack?
When we made candy sushi!

What's your favorite camp song?
Wiggalo
