Veteran’s Breakfast Club presents “America 250: What Are We Celebrating?”  (Ages 18+) (Adult)

What exactly are we celebrating when we commemorate our country’s 250th birthday? Todd DePastino explores the Declaration of Independence and tells the remarkable story of George Robert Twelves Hewes, an obscure Boston shoemaker who dumped tea in Boston Harbor and fought in the Revolution. Come hear how Hewes—and America—changed from a world where ordinary people bowed to their “betters” to one founded on the radical idea that “all men are created equal.” Along the way, there will be powdered wigs, walking canes, and a little tarring and feathering.

Veterans Breakfast Club & Jewish Film Series Honor our Campus Veterans (Ages 18+) (Adult)

The Veterans Breakfast Club has recorded the stories of seventeen veterans who live at Heritage Manor and Levy Gardens or participate in Adult Day Services in Youngstown. Our documentary film brings their voices together into a portrait of military service across generations and every branch of the Armed Forces. Their stories span World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Cold War, and the Gulf War—stories of combat and hardship, but also friendship, humor, and everyday military life. Together, these interviews preserve a remarkable piece of Youngstown's living history and remind us what can be discovered when we simply take the time to ask veterans about their lives and then listen.
