The Susan Kanterman Book Club: “Ten Clear Days” by Eric Beck Rubin (Ages 18+) (Adult)
Join us for another riveting book club session! Ten Clear Days by Eric Beck Rubin follows eighty-three-year-old Mary Beck, a Holocaust survivor who, after surviving a heart attack and stroke despite having signed a do-not-resuscitate order, chooses to pursue medical assistance in dying under Canada's MAiD law. Over the required ten-day evaluation period, an observer documents Mary's conversations with her family, revealing her traumatic past, the love and conflict within her family, and her unwavering desire to die. Based on the author's family history, the novel thoughtfully explores autonomy, grief, and the difficult choices families face at the end of life.
