J-Away Program for Older Adults & Seniors (Adult) (Refreshed!)
This program is designed to assist older adults and seniors in the Youngstown area who are in need of an exercise program. A JCC personal trainer will create personalized exercise plans and train clients in their own home. Participants will receive a free exercise band.

For more information, please contact Assistant Director of Wellness & Aquatics, Casey Atkinson, RDN, LD, at catkinson@jewishyoungstown.org or 330.746.3250 ext. 153.

PD at Home (Adult) (New!)
Thanks to generous grant support, we now have the opportunity to bring the JCC into the homes of people living with Parkinson’s disease at a low and affordable rate. The JCC staff has developed a basic curriculum that is adaptable to each participant’s current and baseline physical condition. The program will begin with an initial physical assessment. A dedicated JCC personal trainer will create personalized exercise plans for the participants. The trainer will arrive at the home equipped with appropriate fitness equipment, including but not limited to:

  • Dumbbells
  • Handled stretch bands of increasing resistance
  • Weighted balls

The client will also receive their own exercise bands in order to continue their workouts between sessions with a trainer.

*Funding is provided by the Thomases Family Endowment of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation.

Parkinson's Wellness Support (Adult)

The Last Wednesday of Every Month | 12:15-1:15 p.m. | Group X Studio

Our Parkinson’s support group is a gathering of individuals with common experiences who provide each other with encouragement, comfort, and advice. We offer a place to give and receive emotional and practical support to others who are in the same situation. We share information about medical diagnosis, treatments, research, and strategies; Talk about feelings and receive confirmation that there are others dealing with the same challenges; Compare common symptoms; Discuss issues that are unique to caregivers; and Learn from local experts.

Parkinson’s members also have access to attend Parkinson’s Moves and Chair Tai Chi. Parkinson's members can also use our J-AWAY program that assists older adults and individuals with Parkinson's in the Youngstown area who are in need of an exercise program.
Our Parkinson's Moves and Chair Tai Chi classes are offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. in our Group X studio.

Parkinson’s Moves
This class is designed to empower those with Parkinson’s disease to take control with daily exercise. It’s a low-impact class that utilizes fluid gentle movement through dynamic stretching to promote flexibility, improved range of motion and myofascial release. Improved mobility can not only mitigate risk of injury but also improves strength.

Chair Tai Chi
Like meditation in motion, this mind-body class is a series of gentle exercises that creates harmony between the mind and body, cultivating and improving health and well-being.
