The ELC at the JCC: The path to Kindergarten starts here!
Our Early Learning Center at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown provides a secure environment that allows children of all backgrounds to reach their full potential. We seek to nourish a child's natural curiosity and excitement while allowing each child to develop at his/her own pace. You can be confident that we will provide all the loving, enriching attention you want for your child.
Our play-based Creative Curriculum fosters positive childhood experiences and encourages development in the areas of social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development. We have a strong emphasis on physical fitness at our facility with an on-site gymnasium, heated indoor pool, and the Valley's best outdoor playground.
Our qualified, nurturing staff provide a climate of positive interaction with stimulating conversations, age-appropriate activities, and projects which encourage development across multiple educational domains. Children will be empowered in a loving environment while learning self-control.

Ben Katz is the new Early Learning Director at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown. The department encompasses a continuum of six weeks to prekindergarten. Ben has an M.ed in Environmental Education from Florida Atlantic University (FAU), where he focused on outdoor learning for young children. His experience with education includes all ages, from early learners up to seniors. Ben began his career by creating an outdoor curriculum for FAU’s lab school at Karen Slattery Educational Research Center for Child Development. Most recently, Ben spent the last two years as the middle school science teacher at Akiva Academy. He was also selected to participate in a fellowship with the Sheva Center Leadership Institute for Early Childhood Professionals, a program run by the JCC Association and funded by the Jim Joseph Foundation. He is one of 31 fellows accepted into the three-year program from across the US and Canada. The goal of the Institute is to discuss, share and implement best practices in Early Childhood Education.
Ben Katz grew up in Southeast Florida, but his family is from Youngstown. Ben spent time here with his family every year and is now excited to call Youngstown his home. He is proud to help strengthen this special community.

Emily is a proud graduate of Youngstown State University with a B.S.B.A. in Business Administration and a concentration in nonprofit leadership. As a student she was seen as a leader on campus and was awarded the Senior Leadership Award in the Management, and Who's Who Among Students in American Universities. Emily hopes to continue to use these skills as the administrator at the ELC. Her passion for education began with a six-week study abroad in Ghana where she served as an assistant teacher at a local elementary school. From this experience, she knew that Early Learning was where she saw herself after graduation.
