MOBILITY MOVEMENT (FORMERLY DELAY THE DISEASE™)
The Parkinson’s-specific exercises are designed to retrain the mind and body. Many participants report a regained ability to successfully manage the disease, improve their quality of life and take back control over their own body movements. Mobility Movement fitness plans include symptom-specific exercises and also address daily functional challenges, such as rising from a chair, getting out of the car, moving about in big crowds, dressing and getting off the floor. Funding is provided by Mercy Health Foundation and the Thomases Family Endowment of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation.
Fitness plans are adapted to all levels of the disease. Symptom-specific exercises target:
- Altered balance
- Bradykinesia (slowing of all movements)
- Depression
- Diminished voice volume
- Freezing
- Masked facial expressions
- Rigidity (stiffness)
- Stooped posture
- Walking/gait

PARKINSON'S WELLNESS SUPPORT
Fourth Friday of Every Month | 12:15-1:15 p.m. | Group X Studio
Our Parkinson’s support group is a gathering of individuals with common experiences who provide each other with encouragement, comfort, and advice. We offer a place to give and receive emotional and practical support to others who are in the same situation. We share information about medical diagnosis, treatments, research, and strategies; Talk about feelings and receive confirmation that there are others dealing with the same challenges; Compare common symptoms; Discuss issues that are unique to caregivers; and Learn from local experts.
Parkinson’s members also have access to attend Parkinson’s Moves, Chair Tai Chi and Mobility Movement classes. Classes are offered Monday - Friday, 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. in our Group X studio.
Parkinson’s Moves
This class is designed to empower those with Parkinson’s disease to take control with daily exercise. It’s a low-impact class that utilizes fluid gentle movement through dynamic stretching to promote flexibility, improved range of motion and myofascial release. Improved mobility can not only mitigate risk of injury but also improves strength.
Chair Tai Chi
Like meditation in motion, this mind-body class is a series of gentle exercises that creates harmony between the mind and body, cultivating and improving health and well-being.
Mobility Movement
This class is designed to promote strength, balance, coordination, and increase flexibility while building agility in order to delay the process of aging.
